  • John Jenks

    lead pastor     ext. 114     john@lakeviewcovenant.org

John joined the Lakeview staff in the spring of 2016. Previously John served as a pastor for 30 years primarily as church planter and Lead Pastor for Cascade Covenant Church in North Bend, Washington. John and his wife Ann both grew up in Northern California and are now enjoying the adventures of living in Duluth with their dog Zoe. John and Ann have 2 sons, Jason and Brian, who live on the west coast. John enjoys riding his bike, traveling, a great meal, a competitive board game, a good movie, and rooting for his favorite sports teams (Seattle Seahawks and Golden State Warriors). John loves to study and teach the Bible and inspire people to grow as fully alive followers of Jesus Christ who are deeply engaged in God’s mission and movement in the world.

  • Brett Schmidt

pastor of adult ministries     ext. 113     brett@lakeviewcovenant.org

Brett joined the Lakeview family over 5 years ago and has helped it run ever since. He has been running with perseverance as our Pastor of Adult Ministries, doing a little bit of everything: teaching, counseling and visiting. But all those “little’s” add up to a lot. He loves what he does: LOTS. He also loves running out for a Diet Coke or taking a family hike with his wife Shannon, daughters Kaylee & Riley & son Trevin. He loves running errands or running to the golf course. He also loves to help others run after Jesus, take our Lakeview vision and take off running.

  • Joshua Sohl

    pastor of children's ministries     ext. 138   joshua@lakeviewcovenant.org

With five of his own children, Pastor Josh is always ending up in some kind of mischief. He loves baseball (Go Cubs), hiking with his family and wrestling around with all of his kids. His passion for kids and families does not just extend to his family. His goal is to see families and children grow in the Lord in amazing ways.

  • Luther Brown

pastor of youth ministries     ext. 121     luther@lakeviewcovenant.org

Luther loves to keep things cooking. He uses his undying energy primarily leading our youth ministry, but also fills in leading worship or preaching. Luther has been helping keep our youth fired up for over six years. He loves to heat things up on the broomball floor, have a fire out to Park Point or watch an intense Sci-Fi movie. He warms up every morning with devotions with his son, Eddie, and if he has time, will end cooking Thai food for his family.

  • Ian Devaney

youth ministries intern     ext. 121     ian@lakeviewcovenant.org

Ian DeVaney is our local superhero with sideburns. Not only does he serve as our Youth Ministries Intern, he helps out on the facilities team and he sets up concerts at local venues. Because youth ministry made such an impact on his own younger years, he is eager to fly in and save the day for our young people. You can find our local hero at Superior’s Vinyl Cave every month trying to find a great album to listen to when he does sit down.

  • Sandi Asker

community group coordinator     ext. 114     sandi@lakeviewcovenant.org

Sandi never sits still. Days are full of either caring for her own group of Askers, sweating with her fitness group or doing life with her beloved church community group. She has a passion for others to get connected to Jesus and others as they change the world. After 15 years of campus ministry, she gets to use her passions to help Lakeview grow in smaller community groups while they reach out in our neighborhoods to those who need to be in community pursuing Christ.

  • Deb Johnson

children & youth ministries Admin. assistant     ext. 110     deb@lakeviewcovenant.org

Over 20 years ago, with 3 littles at home, Deb began serving at Lakeview’s nursery. Now, those “littles” are in college (or finished!) and she continues to serve our Youth and Children Ministries. She loves to serve people by working in the office, volunteering with Celebrate Recovery or leading our 7th and 8th graders on Wednesday nights. She loves quiet morning devotions, morning coffee and the paper. And with their new “empty nest” status, the Johnsons take advantage of date nights at the movies or trying out a new restaurant in town.

  • Corrina Korthals

    office coordinator     ext. 111     corrina@lakeviewcovenant.org

After 16 years of teaching middle school, Corrina was ready for anything. She first started leading at Lakeview ten years ago as a volunteer in Women’s Ministry and eventually joined staff as the full-time Office Coordinator in 2013. She considers a good day filled with helping people get connected at Lakeview while efficiently checking off her to do list. You might find her after a good, long day at the office in her backyard, snuggling with her pug around the fire pit with her family, enjoying the views of Lake Superior.

  • Jill broman

    bookkeeper     ext. 134     jill@lakeviewcovenant.org

Jill starts every day with a brisk walk before she walks into the doors at Lakeview as she has for over 20 years as our bookkeeper! Jill grew up in Salem Covenant, went to North Park College and then joined the Lakeview family when she married her husband John. Jill loves to spend time with her family here in Duluth and travel the country to watch her two sons, Anders and Bjorn, play basketball for Winthrop University. Go Eagles!

  • Penny LaBerge

Parish Nurse Coordinator     ext. 123     parishnurse@lakeviewcovenant.org

Penny loves to listen. She has listened to God for over 21 years at Lakeview, including 10 years of serving in music ministry. Currently, Penny works as the Coordinator of our Parish Nurse Ministry. She loves to visit people in need, listen to their stories and offer prayers and prayer shawls. If you were to visit her on Saturdays, you would hear the sounds of her husband faithfully cooking breakfast for them to share. Sometimes Penny loves the quiet as she hikes, quilts or reads. Find her sometime and share your story with her! She’ll be glad to listen.

  • Mary Hermanson

    worship & music administrator     ext. 125     mary@lakeviewcovenant.org

Mary Hermanson has been writing, leading, and performing music for over 15 years.

“Being a worship leader allows me to combine my two passions – my love of God and love of music. I am so grateful for what God has done in my life, and worship is the expression of that gratitude and appreciation. My hope is that, as a body of believers, we desire to communicate, celebrate, and authentically worship our Creator through music.” Mary, along with her husband Erick, is currently in ministry at Youth for Christ (YFC) and have been an active part of YFC for the past 12 years. Erick and Mary live, work, and play in Duluth, MN with their two small children, Holly and Jack.

  • Ian Ducharme

    sound technician     Ian.Ducharme.M@gmail.com

We are grateful to have Ian as a recent addition to our Lakeview staff. He loves a good meal, downtown Duluth and movie nights. He enjoys the passion at Celebrate Recovery, Lakeview’s love for God and worship. You can find him helping musicians and teams grow and improve. Come visit him sometime at the sound board and ask him what he cooked last night.

  • Mysie Kuehl

    childcare coordinator     ext. 137     melissa@lakeviewcovenant.org

You may never see Mysie but she is constantly at work at Lakeview. And although she does not like to brag, she has a fabulous sense of humor. That’s a good thing because she is the coordinator of all our childcare needs at Lakeview. She loves to help new guests relax while leaving their children in the nursery for the first time and loves to watch our kids grow over the years. When she isn’t working at church, Mysie loves to work with fabric, essential oils or play board games with her son Andrew.

  • Mandy Dewey

    Awana coordinator     mndewey@mchsi.com

Every Wednesday night, the basement of Lakeview transforms into a playground! Mandy and Ryan Dewey are always geared up for the adventure as they lead our Awana kids every week. They stay energized with family camping trips and traditions like homemade pizza Friday nights and waffles and pancakes during the weekend. If Mandy really needs some energy, she will dip into her “mommy only” organic dark chocolate stash. They have found joy in their relationships with the families, staff and support team at Lakeview for 11 years.

  • jeff broman

    facilities Manager     ext. 135     broman@lakeviewcovenant.org

Jeff wears lots of hats here at Lakeview! During our cold winters, stocking caps keep him warm as he shovels and maintains the Lakeview campus. Baseball caps keep the sun off his head during the summer as he landscapes our grounds and maintains our facility. Jeff enjoys strapping on his helmet for a motorcycle ride around beautiful Duluth. He might take off his cap so he can take his favorite two girls (his wife, Nancy, and daughter) out to Bridgeman’s Tuesday nights. Jeff's parents met at Lakeview, and he has been part of the Lakeview family his entire life. Jeff loves serving the Lord here at Lakeview. Tip your hat the next time you see him!

  • Don Ostern

    facilities     ext. 135     facilitymgr@lakeviewcovenant.org

Don’t let Don’s quiet demeanor mislead you. This man is tireless. He quietly cleans, does electric or mechanical work in our church. Don and his wife have a traditional Friday night date. He loves golfing, the cabin and exploring the Twin Ports area. Don has always enjoyed taking care of our church and its impact on people. After 12 years of serving at Lakeview we hope his energy will continue to bless our church family.

  • Shelly Eder

    facilities & office volunteer

Shelly is Our Number One Volunteer! “Volunteer” means to serve willingly and she is always up for helping others! She gladly cleans up and preps the sanctuary, picks up the phone in the office and sets up for Celebrate Recovery. Her cheerful attitude is contagious and has been cheering others up at Lakeview for over 2 years. She loves to look out at the lake from her apartment, snuggling up with her cat Bently as she rests up for another day of service.

LCC Leadership Team

  • Bob Lufholm

My wife and I began attending Lakeview in early 1993 and joined the church later that year. Since that time, I have served Lakeview Covenant on various boards and teams, primarily in the finance area. I am currently serving as the Chair of the Leadership Team. We have three grown children, two are married and away from Duluth. The third, a daughter, resides in Duluth and is also a member of Lakeview.

  • Cole Grace

Cole began attending Lakeview in 1996 and has served on Lakeview's Missions, PRC, and Leadership Teams.  Cole serves as a missionary with SonSet Solutions, a missionary engineering organization with work in 125 countries. Cole and Ruthann have been married 38 years. They have two daughters and two wonderfully spoiled grandchildren.

  • Erik Finstrom

My wife Ali and I have been married 9-years, and have three children, Kayleigh (8), Andrew (6) and Emily (6). I work in the pulp and paper industry in chemical sales and my wife works at home with the kids and performs with the Duluth Playhouse and serves with the music ministry teams. I came to Lakeview while attending college at UMD from 2000-2006 and then brought our family here when we moved full time to Duluth in 2008. Since March of 2015, I have served on the Leadership Team with responsibilities on the Adult Ministry, Children's Discipleship, and Finance Teams. Additionally, I have enjoyed being a part of AWANA, small groups, Adventurous Christian Couples, leading Dave Ramsey courses on biblical financial discipleship, and the Nominating Committee. I am privileged and blessed to be a member of this church family. We continue to see God’s blessings as our family grows as we find opportunities to serve and be served by our community of believers at Lakeview.

  • Cheri Swensson

After raising our two sons in the Barnum area, my husband, Gregg, and I moved to Proctor and have been members of Lakeview Covenant for the past 20 years. Since joining Lakeview, God has called me to facilitate Bible studies for women and to team with my husband to present classes in marriage and family, plus offering seminars for couples through our local Christian radio station. I have been secretary to the Board, traveled with a mission team to Alaska Christian College, and had the privilege of serving as a care giver through Stephen's Ministry. My heart is for the church as a whole, from the little ones to the elderly, but I especially love working as an encourager to women of all ages through one-on-one relationships. My life verse: "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"  I John 3:1 (NIV)

  • Bob Payne

My wife Camilla and I have been attending Lakeview for 20 years and have enjoyed serving in many areas. We enjoy Duluth very much and are raising 3 children, Ted, Beth and Daniel, in the church. I work as a aircraft mechanic and enjoy airplanes, which includes recreational flying. We enjoy many outdoor activities such as canoeing, camping, biking and motorcycle rides up the north shore.

  • Ann Ludolph

I have been a member of Lakeview Covenant Church since 2002. Since that time, I have served in a variety of ministries. I served on the Leadership Team for 5 years. I have been the Support Ministries Team leader for the past 10 years. I have served in Kids’ Korner 2004-2014. I have taught in Vacation Bible School. I have been a confirmation leader for the past 7 years. I have served on the Music and Worship leader search committee, the children’s pastor search committee, and the lead pastor search committee. I have been a part of the community group ministry and women’s Bible study groups. I enjoy scrapbooking memories of family trips, and going on family trips with my family. My husband, Steve, and I are both RNs at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center. We are blessed to have a 21 year old son and a 19 year old daughter. We love our church home here at Lakeview Covenant Church and feel blessed to be a part of the ministries here.
