About the Event

Throughout Church history, Christians have recognized Maundy Thursday as a time to celebrate and reflect on the Last Supper; Jesus’ final meal and teachings with his disciples. The name "Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, meaning "commandment," referring to Jesus’ words in John 13:34:  "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”

So as a church we come together, in prayer and fasting, seeking after the heart of God, the presence of Jesus, and the work of the Holy Spirit. There will be a number of different ways you can participate with us throughout our 24 hours of prayer and fasting.

First, you can sign up to receive prayer prompts from Lakeview every four hours and be in mindful continuous prayer throughout the day. Second, you can sign up for a specific hour, or hours, of prayer throughout the day. By signing up you are letting our community know you have set aside a distraction free hour to be in attentive prayer, listening, and worship. You are welcome to spend this hour wherever you are able to find solitude and limit your distractions. We would love to have people committed to prayer through all 24 hours. Third, you can sign up to spend an hour of prayer on-campus in our prayer room. Our prayer room will be open from 7:00am - 10:00pm and we will limit the room to one person per hour. Fourth, if you can join us in a 24 hour fast. Richard Foster reminds us that;

“fasting must forever center on GOd. IT must be God-initiated and God-ordained…Therefore, in experiences of fasting we are not so much abstaining from food as we are feasting on the word of God. Fasting is feasting!”

We encourage you to thoughtfully and prayerfully consider how you might join us in fasting for these 24 hours as a means to attend to the word of God, worship of God, and listening to his voice.
